I would bring it to another jeweler after you pick it up…something that expensive, you want to make sure of it!!! I worked at Zales for about a year…it doesn’t take that long!

Take the Diamond to A Jeweler store and have them look at the Diamond but don’t go to the one you went to!

Depends on the setting and the jeweler’s experience. For an experienced jeweler and a relatively simple setting, probably not too long. Although, I have to say, those prong settings are harder to pry loose than you might expect–I had a ring I removed some stones from and I had to anneal the ring before I could move the prongs at all. If you have paperwork on the stone (i.e. it’s certified), have someone else (like a GIA certified gemoligist) examine the stone to see if it’s still the same grade. If it’s not, you have a nice little lawsuit on your hands.

No time at all, once he has one of those prongs bent enough to loosen the stone, he can slip that one out and another one back in. Not even 5 min. Any jewelry retail shop in the mall has a diamond tester though and can test to whether yours is real or not. But it’s not the only thing you have to worry about. The jeweler could have switched it with another diamond, just a much lesser quality if yours was a higer grade. This is why it is very important to get it appraised soon after you receive it. That way you get an exact grade of your diamond, color, quality, exact carat, etc. Also, after appraisal you can have it insured for it’s value graded by the appraising jeweler.
